Safe, Healthy Teeth Whitening
Teeth whitening can give you confidence in your smile, and help you to feel certain that you look your best. When you come to see Dr. Marinic for a teeth whitening assessment, Dr. Marinic will evaluate the cause of your tooth stains before recommending a teeth whitening solution. He will work with you to find a solution that is effective, safe and avoids unnecessary costs or health risks.
If you are a candidate for rapid, in-office teeth whitening, Dr. Marinic will prepare custom whitening trays for you. Our in-office trays will give you very rapid results. Because they are very strong, you will need to use these trays here in the office with our supervision.
In-office treatment is followed by custom at-home trays that you will be able to take with you and use at home to continue to enhance the whiteness of your teeth.
Who is a Candidate for In-Office Teeth Whitening?
There are two types of staining. The first is staining on the surface of the tooth (external staining). The second type of stain is inside the tooth (internal stains). Because these stains are caused by different factors and events, they are removed differently.
External teeth stains can be prevented or reduced with regular tooth brushing. If they are not removed on a regular basis, then a professional cleaning is needed to remove them.
Internal stains can come from foods such as coffee, blueberries, and red wine, or antibiotics, smoking, genetics, and excessive fluoride.
Teeth whitening is a process that is effective to reduce many internal stains. It’s important to understand, however, that the whitening process is only effective after the external stains have been removed. For the whitening process to be effective, you will want to have your teeth professionally cleaned first.
You should also be aware that many conditions of discolored tooth enamel can occur during development of the teeth. Substances such as antibiotics (tetracycline) are incorporated into hard tissue when it forms. These stains are virtually impossible to remove via whitening.
Dr. Marinic has used and evaluated just about every popular whitening technology on the market. Understanding the relationships between whitening chemistry and the various causes of “whitening need” of each and every one of our patients, Dr. Marinic carefully recommends the whitening method that produces the desired cosmetic result that is also the safest, and that minimizes or eliminates the teeth sensitivity issue.
