How Does CEREC Work?

Crowns can take up to three visits and the use of a temporary to fully restore your tooth. With CEREC technology this can be done in a single visit while you are in the chair! CEREC’s precision 3D technology allows us to create a customized crown that fits your teeth perfectly and is completely biocompatible with your own tooth structure.

Dr. Marinic will preparing the tooth for crown, inlay, onlay or bridge.

Next, Dr. Marinic will design your crown or bridge using the CEREC computer software. He will have taken precise measurements and impressions of your existing tooth, and he will use the computer to plan your restoration down to the tiniest detail of size, shape and color.

CEREC restorations are milled from a single block of high-quality porcelain, one of the most aesthetic and durable porcelains, and a substance that is particularly compatible with the body. CEREC restorations are made under controlled conditions for the best construction and to get them as close to a natural tooth structure as possible.

Dr. Marinic will place the porcelain into the CEREC milling machine, and the computer-guided tool will craft it to match Dr. Marinic’s specifications.

When the milling machine completes your restoration, Dr. Marinic will want to make sure that it both looks and feels exactly right for your smile and your bite. If any adjustments are needed, those will be made in our in-office dental lab during your appointment. You won’t have to wait or get a temporary crown — Dr. Marinic will make sure that your crown looks and feels just right for your smile.

Dr. Marinic will place the porcelain into the CEREC milling machine, and the computer-guided tool will craft it to match Dr. Marinic’s specifications.

Once the fit and look are right, Dr. Marinic will place your crown or bridge, and you will be ready to go. Expect to be able to eat and smile normally. CEREC reconstructions expand in the same way as teeth do, and also because it comes from a single block, a CEREC restoration is less prone to cracks and flaws than other types of restoration.

Many people are actually allergic to traditional metal crowns. This shows up as swollen, red and receding gums. Removing metal crowns and replacing them with CEREC restorations allows the gums to recover, returning to a healthy, pink and firm condition.

Mark

Mark was unhappy with a large silver-colored filling that was 10 years old. The amalgam material that had been used for the filling was more than just unsightly: it was about 50% mercury, one of the most toxic substances known. For health and aesthetic reasons, Mark wanted Dr. Marinic to remove the filling and replace it with something biocompatible. We carefully used a standard, accredited protocol that isolated the tooth and prevented any of the toxic material or gas from the filling to escape back into Mark’s mouth. The procedure was very fast, and Mark said that he didn’t feel
