Daniel Marinic, DDS, FAGD, has been removing mercury fillings in Highland Park for over 26 years.

Daniel Marinic, DDS, FAGD, will safely remove your "silver," mercury-containing fillings.

North Shore dentist Daniel Marinic has been at the forefront of dental technology for over 26 years, providing the best possible standards of care for his patients. Since 1987, he has provided his patients with fillings made only from the highest-quality, biocompatible dental materials. The tooth-colored fillings are highly aesthetic, durable and free of mercury.

Amalgam (“silver”) fillings were in common use for many years, but they are no longer necessary or desirable.  As much as 50% of these fillings are mercury, which is highly toxic, even in very small quantities.

Dr. Marinic is fully equipped to safely and rapidly remove these mercury restorations here in our office, and replace them with restorations that are tooth-colored and safe. By joining the International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology and implementing their safe-removal protocol, Dr. Marinic made certain that he could provide his patients with the best possible safety and care.

“Silver” amalgam fillings contain highly-toxic mercury

Mercury is the most toxic, non-radioactive element on the earth. Most medical and scientific researchers have called for a ban on the use of mercury in all products. Unfortunately, the U.S. government has been slow to respond to these demands in regard to amalgam fillings.

Silver crown replacement in Glenview

If you need to replace a "silver" crown, Dr. Marinic will craft it from high-quality porcelain ceramic.

A large filling may contain as much mercury as a thermometer, and mercury is a powerful poison. Studies have shown that mercury is more toxic than lead, cadmium or arsenic.Over time, the mercury in your fillings can be released as a vapor, which is easily absorbed into your body fat, liver and spleen. If you currently have amalgam fillings in your mouth, you could be suffering from mercury toxicity.

The World Health Organization has concluded that dental fillings contribute more mercury to a person's body than all other sources of mercury combined. No amount of exposure to mercury vapor can be considered harmless, especially considering its cumulative effect.

If even small levels of mercury are not removed from the body, they can pass the blood-brain barrier and deposit in the brain. Mercury toxicity can cause tremors, confusion, a weakened immune system and memory loss. Studies have also linked mercury poisoning to fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome.

We safely remove your mercury fillings using the IAOMT protocol

The International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology(“IAOMT”) is a group of dentists, physicians and researchers involved in peer-reviewed scientific research, education and the promotion of biocompatible dentistry. They have developed a thorough protocol for the safe removal of mercury fillings. Dr. Marinic has been educated and certified in this IAOMT program.

In our office, safe removal of your mercury fillings includes:

Meet Our Patients

Many of our patients have come to the office with mercury fillings that need to be removed. Here are stories from two of them.

When Bob first came to see Dr. Marinic, he had not been to the dentist for a while, and his teeth and gums were showing the signs of that neglect. Dr. Marinic worked with Bob to put together a treatment plan that would restore his teeth and gums to a healthy, functional condition.

First, Dr. Marinic used laser gum therapy to restore Bob's gums to healthy function.Bob told us that he was surprised when the treatment didn't hurt.

Bob also underwent treatment to have his old amalgam (mercury) fillings safely replaced with tooth-colored, biocompatible fillings. His large inlays and onlays were replaced rapidly, using the CEREC milling machine right here in our office.

When Bob's two front teeth could not be saved, Dr. Marinic restored his smile with a perfectly crafted bridge.

Bob's been very pleased with his dental care, and also with the way in which Dr. Marinic has helped him to understand the entire process. Says Bob, "I have learned from Dr. Marinic and his staff to take better care of my teeth, so that they should last another 30 years."

Mark was unhappy with a large silver-colored filling (an "inlay") that was 10 years old. The amalgam material that had been used for the filling was more than just unsightly: it was about 50% mercury, one of the most toxic substances known. For health and aesthetic reasons, Mark wanted Dr. Marinic to remove the filling and replace it with something biocompatible.

We carefully used a standard, accredited protocol that isolated the tooth and helped prevent toxic material or gas from the filling to escape back into Mark's mouth. The procedure was very fast, and Mark said that he didn't feel anything.

After the thorough removal, Dr. Marinic designed a new inlay for the tooth on his computer, and Mark watched as he made the inlay on our CEREC milling machine. Dr. Marinic placed the inlay, adjusted the bite. Now instead of a large silver-colored tooth, Mark's tooth looks just like the rest of his teeth.
